Part Time or Full Time considered (minimum of 18 hours per week) – [Two Year Fixed Term with the
possibility of an extension subject to funding.]
Salary: £26,339 – £27,657 (full time)
Hours of work To include evening and weekends. Working hours to be agreed in advance.
Expenses All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. These must be agreed with the line manager in advance.
Holiday entitlement 28 days annual leave entitlement per year inclusive of bank and public holidays. (Pro rata if part time)
References & Vetting Appointment will be subject to satisfactory Access NI Vetting and references
Probationary period subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period
Responsible to: A line manager and will be under the supervision of the Minister of Cullybackey Methodist Church
Candidates are required to provide evidence of a personal faith in Christ, normally demonstrated by an active membership of a Christian congregation.
Candidates will be required to be a committed Christian, confirming agreement with the Statement of Faith of the Methodist Church in Ireland
Applicants must
Be willing to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends. The post is subject to an Enhanced Access NI disclosure.
Purpose and Objectives:
- To provide pastoral care for children and teenagers within the Church context
- To help children and teenagers grow in their Christian faith
- To help shape the life and worship at Cullybackey Methodist Church in a way that is attractive to this age group and to empower them to get involved in the Church
- To develop work among those in the community who are not fully engaged in other Church contexts, with the aim of bringing them to faith and discipleship
Main Responsibilities:
- Spend time with the children and young people with a particular focus on building relationships, supporting, encouraging and developing their discipleship
- Work alongside volunteers to support the delivery of programmes for children and young people eg, Sunday School, GB, BB, YC, YF.
- Be involved in the worship life of the congregation eg. leading praise, organising children’s talks and encouraging children and young people to use their gifts in worship
- Provide opportunities for children and young people to encounter Jesus
- Encourage children and young people to engage with the wider Methodist Church in Ireland through IMYCD events and to act as a leader and facilitator for attendance.
- Co-ordinate youth & children’s led worship services throughout the year
- Mentor young people through 1-1s
- Help our young people to grow and develop into young leaders
- Attend regular meetings of the church staff, and report to Church Council meetings as requested.
- Keep adequate records of contacts and of work undertaken.
- Liaise with the Safeguarding Officer as required
- Forge links in the community through contact with local schools eg leading assemblies
Full time applicants will also be expected to provide some pastoral care to the general congregation.
Other duties as may be determined by the management from time to time.
Management:
The Youth & Children’s worker will have a line manager who will monitor and evaluate his/her progress on a regular basis. The Youth & Children’s worker will also be expected to participate in training as required by the Methodist Church in Ireland
