Senior Finance Officer

What You’ll Do:​​

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will provide financial support and advice to budget holders, ordinands, and other stakeholders. You will maintain accurate accounts and asset registers across a diverse portfolio including education buildings, training activities, clergy costs, and property assets.​

Some of the Key Responsibilities of the role:​

  • School Building Projects: ​
    • ​Oversee financial reporting and integrity for school building projects
    • Allocate funding for projects making appropriate transfers from government grant funding
    • ​Facilitate financial operations including budgeting, invoicing and account reconciliation for the School Buildings Teams projects​
  • Property & Asset Management​
    • ​Maintain and update the accounts fixed asset register for all diocesan properties and other capital assets
    • ​Calculate and process deprecation charges in line with accounting standards
    • ​Collaborate with the Property Team to ensure financial accuracy ​
  • Ordinands & Training:​​
    • ​Advise on financial implications of training pathways
    • ​Process grants, training costs, and Ministry Division returns
    • ​Provide reporting for ministry training initiatives​
  • Clergy Costs: ​
    • ​Maintain clergy cost forecasts and stipend postings
    • ​Manage housing allowances, council tax payments, and curate transitions​
  • Other Duties:​
    • ​Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns for the diocese
    • ​Collaborate across the finance team to ensure continuity and coverage.
    • ​Support statutory and management accounts preparation​

​We are looking for a Senior Finance Officer who will bring:​​

    • Proven experience in management accounting and financial reporting​​
    • Strong understanding of charity finance and grant funding​
    • Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools​
    • Can communicate complex financial information clearly and supportively​
    • A collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving​
