Press Officer

As Press Officer, you will work closely with the Partnerships & Public Affairs Manager, as well as Deputy Director of External Relations to deliver communications that reflect our ‘Transforming Church. Together’ strategic goals, and report on the positive impact of the strategy to internal and external audiences.

The primary focus of this role will be on copywriting for web, email, and PR, but will also take responsibility for broadcast media management, as well as creation of assets and infographics.

In brief, it can be summarised as follows:

  • Develop and implement effective communications activities for both internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure consistency in terms of voice, branding, messaging, and frequency of posting via digital channels, as well as supporting press spokespeople.
  • Foster good media relationships and respond to journalist’s questions by phone or email.
  • Write and optimise content for the website, digital newsletters, print publications and social networking sites.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A sound grasp of what different media outlets want and an understanding of where to seek out newsworthy stories
  • Knowledge of regional and/or national media landscapes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt language for a variety of audiences and media
  • Use of Content Management Systems to edit and publish news stories and/or other content

Hours: Part-time: 21hrs/ week

Salary: £27,000 – £31,000 per annum (pro-rata) (depending on experience)

Location: Based in our Diocesan Office in Stoke Gifford (North Bristol)
